Encyclopedia of Women and Islamic Cultures: Volumes and Supplements

THE EWIC PROJECT

       The Encyclopedia of Women and Islamic Cultures (EWIC) is an interdisciplinary, transhistorical, global project that compiles essays by scholars on all women in Muslim majority societies and Muslim women in Muslim minority societies -- and Islamic cultures. EWIC has published 1,535 articles on 452 topics written by 1196 scholars. This opus of scholarship has added nearly 4 million words to the library of research on women and Islamic cultures. 

       EWIC Print I was published in six volumes between 2003 and 2007, bringing together the work of 907 scholars in 1,246 articles for a total of almost 2 million words covering 410 topics.

       In 2010, the EWIC project moved to EWIC Online. All of EWIC PRINT I was placed on line in 2010. Between 2010 and 2020, 20 supplements with 289 articles written by 292 authors  were published for a total of almost 2 million words, covering 126 topics of which 42 were new topics added after the publication of EWIC Print I. 

       In 2020, EWIC 2010 - 2020 will begin publication.  EWIC 2010 - 2020 publishes all of EWIC Online Supplements organized into 9 volumes. Four volumes will be published in 2020 and four in 2021. 

       After 2021, EWIC Online will resume with EWIC Online Supplement 21, publishing one supplement annually.
